Voter Registration List Maintenance
SecurethevoteMD is dedicated to ensuring that the State Board of Elections maintains a secure and accurate voter registration database. Accurate voter rolls are essential for fair, transparent, and trustworthy elections. As Thomas Paine wisely stated, “The right of voting for our representatives is the primary right by which all other rights are protected.”
Why Clean Voter Rolls Matter
Accurate voter registration lists are essential to ensuring fair, transparent, and secure elections. Without them, fraudulent or erroneous voting can compromise the voice of the people and undermine democracy.
SecurethevoteMD is committed to upholding voter integrity by demanding the Maryland State Board of Elections (SBE) follow both state and federal law in maintaining clean voter rolls.
The ERIC Problem
The Electronic Registration Information Center (ERIC) was founded to help states maintain clean and accurate voter rolls. But reality no longer aligns with its mission:
- Only 19 states + DCcurrently contract with ERIC. That’s less than 60% of the country.
- ERIC lacks access to full national voter data—how can it track duplicate or deceased votersin non-participating states?
- Membership claims are inconsistent and outdatedacross ERIC’s own website.
- States like Ohio, Iowa, Virginia, and Texasleft in 2023, citing lack of transparency and effectiveness.
If ERIC can’t maintain its own roster, can it be trusted with America’s voter data? Read the full report here.
Maryland Voter Roll Red Flags
A Maryland Voter Data Research Report reveals serious discrepancies:
- 1,400 deceased individualsstill listed as registered voters (as of August 7, 2024).
- Legislative audit (Oct 2023) found 327 duplicates, while independent analysis revealed over 1,021 duplicate records.
- Additional findings include:
- 8,455registered voters without verified mailing addresses
- 831listing a UPS/FedEx/PO Box instead of a residential address
- 177underage voters who cast ballots
- 6,588 individuals who voted before they were registered
These errors far exceed the federal error threshold (1 in 125,000 ballots). In the 2022 election, that would mean no more than 16 errors — yet evidence suggests a vastly higher rate. Read the full report here.
Legal Obligations Ignored
Maryland law (Election Law §3–505) and the National Voter Registration Act of 1993 require voter roll maintenance. So why hasn’t the SBE responded to citizen concerns?
Despite formal submissions and repeated requests:
- The Board has not addressedthe discrepancies
- Public trust is eroding
A Call for Transparency and Action
We are calling on the Maryland State Board of Elections to:
- Immediately respondto submitted findings
- Publicly disclosesteps taken to remove ineligible registrations
- Comprehensively reviewall list maintenance procedures before the 2024 elections
- Hold an open sessionto answer citizen and media inquiries
Without clean rolls, we cannot trust the results. Without trust, our democracy is at risk.
